Mike Starner is a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) with 30 years of experience in the electric utility industry. Most of his career was spent with an Investor-Owned Utility in Maryland where Mike started as a Street Light Servicer. Mike's career advanced through various positions including lineman, troubleman and crew foreman before being promoted into a management. Mike had responsibility for various Transmission & Distribution departments including Substation Construction and Maintenance, Emergency Response, Distribution Automation and Safety. Mike left the utility in 2016 and accepted a role as Division Manager for a large utility contractor operating in Maryland. Longing to return to safety management, Mike accepted a role as the Director of Safety for a growing electrical maintenance and testing company with a national footprint. Mike is currently the Executive Director, Outside Line Safety for the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). Mike is active on the OSHA ET&D Strategic Partnership Steering Committee and sits on several industry focused boards and committees, including Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFi), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Electrical Industry Certification Association (EICA), and National Cable Splicing Certification Board, Inc. (NCSCB).
